Ottoman wreck Kalamitsi
Ottoman wreck Kalamitsi Dive Site – Halkidiki, Greece
Ottoman wreck Kalamitsi. Just off the picturesque coast of Kalamitsi in Halkidiki lies a captivating shipwreck that offers a unique diving experience for both intermediate and advanced divers. Resting at a maximum depth of 17.5 meters, the wreck is split into two main sections—bow and stern—scattered across a gently sloping seabed. The stern, lying on its port side, remains relatively intact, while the bow section is more fragmented and shallower, beginning around 5.8 meters deep.
Divers can explore remnants of the engine base, a large Scotch-type boiler, an auxiliary boiler, and parts of the ship’s structure scattered around the site. Over the years, the wreck has become an artificial reef, hosting vibrant marine life including groupers, wrasses, scorpionfish, octopuses, and colorful nudibranchs. Soft corals and sponges now cling to the metal surfaces, creating a beautiful contrast against the rusted remains.
Visibility is generally good (15–25 meters), and the dive is best accessed by boat due to the distance from shore. The calm conditions in the area make it an ideal site for photography and relaxed exploration. Kalamitsi’s shipwreck combines history, marine biodiversity, and a sense of adventure—making it a must-dive for underwater enthusiasts visiting northern Greece.
